-Illegitimately trained -

A play on words, this title touches on society’s view of the professional artist as an illegitimate career. it questions the legitimacy of the abstract style as well as representation in general, referencing similar themes initially raised by Belgian surrealist René Magritte in his 1929 painting, the treachery of images. After all, this is not a “real” train, so by default it must be illegitimate. or does it count as “real” because it is something that still exists and is viewable? this painting questions and disputes our understanding of reality.
